UX Design, Information Architecture, Content Strategy
Nike has an ongoing and strong commitment to incorporating sustainability into their design and production process. I worked with AKQA to redesign the architecture and experience of one of their internal sites that serves as a centralized resource for information and tools related to sustainability.
We began by interviewing a cross-section of multiple different types of workers at Nike headquarters, asking them about their jobs and how they currently learn about sustainability at Nike. From there, I distilled down the findings to a set of core understandings which would later inform the content strategy for the site. With this data in hand, I constructed four key user personas with distinct roles, goals, and learning strategies.
Nike already had pool of different sites, documents, videos and other pieces of information to incorporate into the site. Using the data we'd gathered through the interviews, I formulated the site architecture and mapped each piece of content to it.
The next step was to validate the sitemap by plotting out potential user journeys using the personas prepared previously. This served to document the intent of the overall architecture to the team that would be maintaining the site.
Finally, I built a series of wireframes to plot hierarchy and layout utilizing the modular content system already in place.
There was truly a massive amount of content that needed to be sorted and categorized to make a cohesive system. Devising a content strategy that wasn't just subjective, but based on data was key.
The document I prepared for Nike served as a guide for how to assemble and organize their internal informational site centered on sustainability. With it, they had a strategy for how to organize both existing and future content.
